In 1987, the Labour Court recommended two pay increases for North Eastern Cattle Breeding Society Limited workers: 2.50% from 1 May 1986 and a further 2% from 1 February 1987 under an agreement ending 30 June 1987. It also recommended that clerical increments count from the start of full-time service with the Society. The recommendation was signed on 22 April 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers Union sought higher pay and call allowances for 47 inseminators and 26 clerical workers, along with changes to the clerical scale. North Eastern Cattle Breeding Society Limited, represented by the Irish Co-Operative Society Limited, cited rising costs and declining income. The Court did not recommend conceding the union's call-allowance claim and suggested further examination of the Society's transport offer.
