In 1987, the Labour Court recommended redundancy terms in the dispute between S. And A. G. Davis Limited and the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union over a proposed animal feed plant closure. The recommendation was signed on 2 April 1987. The Court recommended the staffing numbers proposed by management, while allowing the union to revisit staffing three months after redundancies in light of the reorganisation. It recommended statutory entitlements, five weeks' basic pay plus shift premium for each service year under 41 years, and 5.50 weeks' basic pay plus shift premium for each service year over 41 years. It also recommended a £400 lump-sum bonus and said the unions concerned should accept the offer. Volunteers who remained were to be guaranteed those terms if made redundant by 31 December 1988. The recommendation assumed an orderly closure with minimal disruption to the company's business.
