The Labour Court recommended a 5% pay increase for Aer Rianta workers in its 26th wage-round dispute with the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union. The recommendation was signed on 20 June 1987 and covered about 850 workers. The union sought a 10% increase over 12 months, a 35-hour week and two extra annual-leave days. Aer Rianta cited financial pressures, airport investment needs and its public-sector pay policy. The union argued pay had fallen behind inflation and that shorter hours and extra leave could support employment and workers' welfare. The Court recommended a 5% increase from the expiry of the previous agreement for 15 months. It did not recommend conceding the union's claims for shorter hours or additional leave.
