In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union accept Videopro International Products Limited's offer of a 6% pay increase for 12 months from 1 April 1986 for 52 production operatives. It also recommended one day's paid compassionate leave for the death of a grandparent or parent-in-law. The recommendation was signed on 8 January 1987. The union had sought a larger pay increase, additional leave, paid time to go to the bank and a service incremental scale. It withdrew its additional annual leave claim during negotiations. The Court recommended that the company concede the compassionate leave claim and that both sides discuss a service compensation scheme in the next wage round.
