In 1987, the Labour Court did not recommend that Braids of Ennis Limited increase Rita Hogan’s redundancy compensation. The recommendation was signed on 8 January 1987. Hogan had accepted voluntary redundancy in February 1985 after 17 years with the company, receiving £2,500. She sought compensation similar to payments of £8,000 to £17,000 made to eight workers the following year. Braids of Ennis said her union had negotiated the payment and that she had also received £630 ex gratia in addition to statutory entitlements.
