In 1986, the Labour Court recommended that J. Holland Hosiery Ltd. pay two redundant workers an additional £1,000 each in settlement of their claim for enhanced redundancy compensation. The recommendation was signed on 26 November 1986. The Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union (Actss) said the workers, a VDU operator and an accounts technician, should receive more than five weeks' pay for each year of service. The company had offered a month's pay alongside statutory redundancy entitlement and rejected the union's claim. The Court noted that the company did not attend the hearing, but said its absence did not help the Court consider the case.
