In 1986, the Labour Court recommended that four workers at Leo Laboratories Limited receive compensation equal to 1.5 times their estimated annual loss of overtime. The recommendation was signed on 3 November 1986. The workers had lost overtime after work was transferred from Ireland to a French branch of Leo Laboratories Limited. They had worked high overtime levels for between six and 13 years. The Federated Workers Union of Ireland had sought 2.5 times the annual loss, while Leo Laboratories Limited offered a formula based on the annual loss less estimated remaining overtime. The Court recommended the higher compensation in what it described as exceptional circumstances.
