WRC recommendation finds against worker in dismissal dispute

A Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) officer did not recommend in favour of a Bartender in a dispute over his dismissal by a Hospitality Services Provider. The recommendation was dated 21 October 2024. The Worker said a line manager dismissed him by email without giving him a chance to answer allegations. The Employer said the managing director soon retracted the dismissal and offered a meeting, grievance process and investigation. The officer found the initial dismissal lacked proper procedures and fairness, but considered the retraction efforts genuine and the Worker’s failure to engage relevant to the recommendation. The recommendation is non-binding.
