The WRC found that a delivery driver was unfairly dismissed after being required to drive during a red weather warning for Storm Darragh, then dismissed following an argument about undelivered parcels. The recommendation, dated 21 August 2025, was to pay him €1,000 compensation. The worker said a colleague verbally abused him when he returned to base with undelivered parcels and again the following Monday. He said the employer then told him that “things were not working out” and dismissed him. The employer did not attend either scheduled hearing. The adjudication officer said the dismissal was essentially a summary dismissal and found that the employer had disregarded the Code of Practice on Grievance and Disciplinary Procedures. The officer cited the difficulty of driving during the Met Éireann red warning and found that the worker was unfairly dismissed.
