WRC recommends no recovery of shift allowance after offset

The WRC recommended that an employer not seek repayment from a worker for shift allowance paid in error while he held a temporary higher post, after offsetting unsocial-hours allowance owed. The recommendation was dated 16 September 2025. The worker said he believed an arrangement carried his allowance into the temporary role. The employer said the role did not qualify for it. The officer found no evidence of such an arrangement and did not recommend in the worker's favour on that issue. After the offset, the WRC recommended that the employer not pursue repayment for the period from 27 June 2022 to 12 May 2024.
