WRC recommends internal appeal over injury-on-duty benefit refusals

The WRC recommended that a worker appeal refusals of injury-on-duty benefits to the employer’s HR Directorate. Adjudication Officer Jim Dolan dated the recommendation on 23 October 2024. The worker said the force had delayed and mishandled applications following two incidents, including a 2021 road collision. The employer said it had offered an internal appeal, which the worker had not used. Dolan said the process had taken too long and recommended that HR make every effort to conclude the appeal by the end of December 2024. The recommendation did not decide whether the worker qualified for the benefits.
