A WRC adjudication officer recommended €37,000 for a regional operations manager, finding that a care home business treated her unfairly and behaved unreasonably. The recommendation, dated 25 October 2024, followed the employer’s failure to attend either hearing.
The worker said she resigned in September 2023 after being redeployed to manage a care home amid serious operational problems, including staff departures, unpaid suppliers and unresolved building and safety issues. She described being left without staff, supplies, maintenance or support, and said the experience delayed her return to work. The employer did not attend or provide a response.
The officer found the worker was justified in resigning and attributed her delay in returning to work to the employer. The recommended €37,000 comprised €10,000 for unpaid bonus, €10,000 for unfair and unreasonable treatment, €10,000 for lost earnings until she found new work, and €7,000 for unpaid pension contributions. The officer also recommended that the employer take note of its workplace safety duties.
