The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that a hospital upgrade a worker from Grade VI to Grade VII and pay her €10,000 after a flawed job evaluation process. The recommendation was dated 6 June 2023.

The worker said she had been doing Grade VII work while paid at Grade VI. The hospital accepted that her responsibilities were more consistent with Grade VII, but said the delay and interview arrangements were outside its control.

The adjudicator found the evaluation was delayed, the worker had no advance notice of a telephone interview, and the interview took place while she was an inpatient. There was no evidence a second person joined the call, as the agreed scheme required. The adjudicator recommended setting aside the evaluation result and upgrading her effective 7 October 2021, with €10,000 compensation for her higher-level work and the stress caused by the flawed process.
