The Labour Court said industrial action at Barlo Merriot’s Clonmel plant could follow only after the agreement’s procedures had been exhausted and 14 days’ notice given. The decision was signed on 4 August 1998. Barlo Merriot had sought an interpretation of its registered employment agreement after an incident caused a full day’s production to be lost. The Court recommended that Barlo Merriot and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union observe the agreement and take immediate steps to address serious industrial relations problems.
