The Labour Court reduced a €15,000 compensation award to €3,500 after allowing Leahy & Co’s appeal in Sinead Moran’s penalisation case. The determination was dated 26 March 2012.
Moran, a receptionist, said Leahy & Co dismissed her because she had complained of bullying by the office manager. The accountancy firm said it dismissed her over performance concerns. The Court found that her final complaint materially influenced the dismissal, although it did not find that the complaint itself was valid. It concluded that Leahy & Co penalised Moran for making a protected complaint under workplace safety law.
