The Labour Court varied a Rights Commissioner's decision that had found Catherine Dawson's complaints well founded and awarded her a contract of indefinite duration for 14 hours a week and €20,000 compensation. The determination was dated 22 July 2016.
Dawson had appealed the decision concerning her complaint under the Protection of Employees (Fixed-Term Work) Act 2003. By the Labour Court hearing, C.I.T. had addressed the contract issue in a written contract of indefinite duration providing for 14 hours' teaching a week. The Court found Dawson no longer had standing to continue her appeal and varied the Rights Commissioner's decision.
C.I.T. also cross-appealed the €20,000 compensation amount. It lodged the cross-appeal outside the six-week limit, and its representative conceded it was out of time; the Labour Court so determined.
