Labour Court dismisses Donal Morris's fixed-term work appeal against Irish Prison Service

The Labour Court dismissed Donal Morris's appeal against the Irish Prison Service on 2 March 2007 after finding he was not a fixed-term employee under the Protection of Employees (Fixed-Term Work) Act 2003. Because it had no jurisdiction to consider his remaining arguments, the merits were not decided. Morris had worked as a prison chaplain at Castlerea Prison. He argued that the Bishop of Elphin's revocation of his nomination was a specific event ending his employment; the Irish Prison Service argued the termination procedure did not meet that definition.
