Labour Court rejects worker’s pregnancy discrimination complaint against Moriarty Holdings

In 1993, the Labour Court found that a worker was dismissed by Moriarty Holdings Limited (Super Valu, Balbriggan) because she was considered unsuitable, not because of her pregnancy. It found her discrimination complaint not well founded. The worker alleged sex and marital-status discrimination over her dismissal, saying it followed shortly after she told the employer she was pregnant. The employer said her pregnancy was not a factor and that it dismissed her because of her suitability for the role. The Labour Court made no order. Its decision was dated 15 March 1993.
