Labour Court disallows Changiz Durrani’s equal-pay appeal

The Labour Court varied an earlier decision but disallowed Changiz Durrani’s appeal against Brinks Security Services Ireland Ltd, finding that the pay difference was unrelated to race or nationality. The determination was signed on 10 August 2016. Durrani said he initially earned €9 an hour while an Irish comparator doing like work earned €10.01. Brinks said the rates reflected different contract types. The Court found the pay-setting process opaque and arbitrary, but accepted that factors unrelated to nationality determined the rates. Durrani accepted that his victimisation claim was out of time; it was not before the Court on appeal.
