Labour Court dismisses Vytautas Jurksa’s race discrimination appeal

By Gráinne Nolan

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court dismissed Vytautas Jurksa’s appeal against the Equality Tribunal’s decision on his race discrimination complaint against the Conrad Hotel. The determination was signed on 4 December 2013. Jurksa said his East European nationality was the only rational explanation for the hotel’s rejection of his application for a laundry assistant job. The hotel denied discrimination and said it appointed two other candidates, one of whom was also of East European nationality. The Court found Jurksa had not named a comparator or established a possible connection between his nationality and the hotel’s hiring decision. It affirmed the Equality Tribunal’s decision and disallowed the appeal.
