Labour Court sets aside Equality Officer decision after Eddie Rockets appeal over out-of-time complaints

The Labour Court allowed Eddie Rockets’ appeal and set aside the Equality Officer’s decision after finding Melanda Magyar and Laura Mezei’s complaints were out of time. The determination was signed on 25 November 2013. Both the workers and Eddie Rockets had appealed. The Court found that the complaints were received on 15 December 2008, after the six-month deadlines had expired on 6 December for Magyar and 3 December for Mezei. It rejected their request for an extension: their earlier Payment of Wages Act complaint showed they had been able to pursue employment-law rights. The discrimination merits were not decided.
