The Labour Court rejected Liana Taranda’s appeal over her dismissal by Grosvenor Cleaning Services Limited, finding her race discrimination complaint not well founded. The determination was signed on 31 July 2012. Taranda said she was dismissed without fair procedures and that an Irish employee would have been treated differently. Grosvenor denied her nationality played a part and said she admitted taking items from a client’s store. The Court found the CCTV meeting was an investigation and accepted the company’s account that Taranda asked for the disciplinary process to be handled immediately. It criticised the company’s procedures as inadequate and below the standards in its staff handbook, but found the expedited process reflected her request and the seriousness of her conduct. It concluded an Irish employee would have been treated similarly.
