The Labour Court increased Raimonda Jonylaite’s compensation for pregnancy discrimination from €4,000 to €7,500 in a determination signed on 20 January 2010. It found that pregnancy was the dominant reason for her dismissal by Tara Contracts Ltd (In Liquidation).

Jonylaite appealed only the amount awarded by the Equality Officer, who had found the gender discrimination complaint well founded. The Labour Court agreed with that finding and varied the award to €7,500. The respondent did not attend the hearing or provide evidence to rebut the discrimination claim. The Equality Officer had found that the family status, marital status and race claims were not established. Claims concerning access to employment, harassment and sexual harassment had been withdrawn before the appeal. The Labour Court determination concerned only the compensation for gender discrimination.
