Labour Court increases Ewa Mateja’s rest-break award to €4,000

The Labour Court increased Ewa Mateja’s award to €4,000 after finding that Claremorris Tourism Ltd failed to provide required rest breaks. The determination was dated 25 March 2011. The Court found that Mateja worked more than six hours without a 30-minute break on at least 11 occasions in the two months before her employment ended. The employer admitted the breaches. The Court varied the Rights Commissioner’s decision and awarded €4,000 under section 12(2) of the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997.
