The Labour Court awarded Akos Bedo €1,200 after Traffic Management Services TMS - Carra Celtic Ltd admitted two breaches of working-time rules. In a determination dated 23 March 2009, the Court awarded €600 for failing to keep prescribed records and €600 for excessive average working hours. Bedo appealed a Rights Commissioner’s dismissal of his case after he did not attend the hearing. He said he had worked excessive hours, received no rest breaks and had holiday pay calculated only on basic hours. The company argued that an exemption applied to the rest-break issue and that this was the only claim properly before the Court on appeal.
