The Labour Court overturned a €2,000 award to Deniss Solodounikovs after finding that Breffni Carpentry Services Limited had not breached rules on breaks or notice of additional working hours. Solodounikovs’ appeal against the amount of compensation failed. The determination was dated 6 May 2008. Solodounikovs said some days began at 7am and ended at 7pm without the required breaks or advance notice. The company said the longer days included travel from Cavan to work bases in Dublin. The Court treated only time spent at the workplace as working time, excluding travel. It found that he received two breaks totalling an hour during his usual 8am to 5pm hours and was not required to work additional hours. Both claims were not well founded.
