The Labour Court’s determination for Gerard Laboratories Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union set sick pay, minimum hourly rates and workplace procedures. It was signed on 19 May 2005. The scheme provides up to eight weeks’ paid sick leave in a 12-month period for employees with at least 12 months’ service, subject to medical certification and three unpaid days. The Court set staged minimum hourly rates for packing, warehouse and stores operatives and for production operatives, and required grievance and disciplinary procedures with employee representation. The rates were to apply retrospectively from 25 February 2005, with implementation within one month of the determination.
