In 1998, the Labour Court rejected Ms Deirdre Sweeney's appeal concerning whether an earlier equal-pay recommendation also entitled her to the same grade as three male comparators. The determination was dated 10 August 1998. The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and the Labour Relations Commission opposed the appeal, saying the recommendation had been implemented in full. The Court found the earlier Equality Officer proceedings concerned remuneration, and grading had not been raised there, so the grading appeal was not properly before it. The merits of the grading issue were not decided.
