The Labour Court overturned a €20,000 award to Barbara Freeman after allowing Superquinn’s appeal over her unsuccessful application for a Head Cashier post at its Sundrive Road branch.
The Court’s determination was dated 14 November 2002. The Equality Officer had found that Superquinn discriminated against Freeman on marital status, family status and age grounds during the selection process and recommended compensation for distress. The Court found that the evidence did not show that her unsuccessful application was because of those grounds. It overturned the Equality Officer’s decision and award.
