The Labour Court rejected Mandate’s appeal over Superquinn’s policy on female staff wearing trousers. Its determination was signed on 20 April 2000. Mandate represented 97 female employees at Superquinn’s Sutton branch. It said local managers had refused requests to wear trousers; the company said its policy allowed women to wear them and that it was redesigning the uniform. The Court found Superquinn’s formal policy allowed female staff to wear trousers and that the claimants knew they could do so. It did not accept that they had suffered discrimination, and the claim failed.
