The Labour Court determined that the South Eastern Health Board had not implemented an Equality Officer’s recommendation in a sex discrimination case brought by psychiatric nurses Sheila O’Dea, Sheila Hallinan and Nora O’Dwyer. It directed implementation by 9 January 2000. The determination was signed on 5 January 2000. The Equality Officer had found that the Board discriminated in allocating night-duty postings and recommended equal access for qualified male and female nurses, taking account of their respective numbers. The officer also recommended £1,500 for each nurse for loss and stress. The Board told the Labour Court it would implement the recommendation from 9 January 2000.
