The Labour Court decided that 13 employees of Lowe Alpine Limited were not covered by the Tailoring Joint Labour Committee. The decision, under section 57 of the Industrial Relations Act, 1946, was dated 10 July 1997. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union applied on the employees’ behalf, arguing they met the criteria for coverage by the committee’s Employment Regulation Order. Lowe Alpine said it mass-produced garments and rucksacks and did not carry out bespoke tailoring. The Court found that the employees did not qualify under the statutory requirements.
