Labour Court rules door supervisors are outside Security Industry Order

The Labour Court ruled that the Security Industry Joint Labour Committee and its Employment Regulation Orders did not apply to door supervisors or the Irish Security Industry Association (Isia). The decision was signed on 18 February 2010. The ISIA applied for a ruling that the Order did not cover door supervisors, arguing it applied to security guards at client sites. The National Employment Rights Authority (Nera) argued that door supervisors doing security work for contract clients came within its definition of security operatives. The Court said the Order covered general security duties, while door supervisors performed specific duties that were qualitatively different.
