Equality Officer finds against worker after she misses hearing

By Aoife Loughran

Workplace decision ·

An Equality Officer found against a worker in her gender discrimination complaint after her failure to attend the hearing was found unreasonable. The Equality Tribunal decision was dated 20 March 2009; the merits were not decided. The worker alleged that her employer dismissed her because of her gender. Her representative told the Tribunal the parties had reached a settlement and asked for an adjournment, but the request was not granted. Neither party attended the hearing, and no evidence supporting the allegation was given.
