Labour Court affirms decision against Michael O’Sullivan in equal-pay appeal

The Labour Court affirmed a Rights Commissioner decision against Michael O’Sullivan in his appeal of an equal-pay claim against I.R.E Recruitment Services. The determination was signed on 24 February 2014. O’Sullivan said he was paid €11.50 an hour while comparable employees of the hirer received €13.85. He based his belief about their rate on a payslip he had seen but could not produce, and on what he described as common knowledge. The Court found he had provided no reliable or admissible evidence of the comparator rate, said the claim could not succeed and disallowed the appeal.
