The Workplace Relations Commission found Dr Iman Qasim’s unfair-dismissal complaint against Western House Medical Centre not well founded. The decision was dated 5 August 2025. The WRC found she had done no work for the centre when it revoked her contract and was not an employee for the purposes of her complaint.
Qasim said the centre rescinded her signed contract after she could not report for work on the agreed start date of 2 December 2024. She said she had resigned from her previous job and sought compensation based on the contract’s €100,000 annual salary. The centre argued that she had not started employment and was not covered by the Unfair Dismissals Acts. It also said it had offered €600 towards her Irish Medical Council subscription costs, which she rejected.
The WRC considered the timeline around the offer and start date, but did not accept that the centre was fully at fault for the delays. It found that Qasim had carried out no work for the centre before the contract was revoked. The complaint was therefore found not well founded, and the WRC granted no redress.
