The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Ballymaley Stores Limited, which trades under the Homesavers banner, to pay former supervisor Mark O'Connor €13,000 after finding that he was discriminated against on the Traveller Community ground. The decision was dated 19 August 2025.
O'Connor said he was dismissed from the company's Bunclody store during probation because he is a member of the Traveller Community, and described derogatory remarks and instructions to watch Traveller customers. The company denied the alleged conduct and said he was dismissed for underperformance. The officer found that he was dismissed after four weeks without reasons, and that the company had not followed its probation process, supporting an inference of discrimination. The WRC also directed the company to consult a Traveller advocacy body and provide managers with dignity and respect training.
