The Workplace Relations Commission decided that Joseph Bergin is entitled to a statutory redundancy payment after accepting that his employment with Manor Stone Quarries Ltd ended by reason of redundancy. The decision, dated 25 October 2024, makes the entitlement subject to his having been in insurable employment during the relevant period. Bergin worked as a machine driver from 26 January 2015. He said he received a letter on 21 August 2023 informing him that the business was being placed in liquidation, and later learned that PWC had been appointed receiver. He sought his statutory entitlement; the company raised no objection. The decision sets out the qualifying period and gross weekly pay of €624 as the basis for calculating the payment. It does not state the payment amount. Statutory redundancy pay is a lump sum entitlement when employment ends because of qualifying business circumstances, such as an employer ceasing business or reducing its workforce.
