Catherine Byrne was awarded €1,000 after the Workplace Relations Commission found her childcare employer failed to provide her with a statement of employment terms. The decision was dated 15 August 2024. Byrne said she did not receive the statement at any point during her employment, which ran from July 2021 to April 2024. Her employer said personal circumstances meant the document was not issued when she started and argued that terms were emailed in March 2024. It produced an email dated 22 April, after Byrne’s employment had ended. The adjudication officer found no evidence that a personal statement was provided during her employment. Under the law, employers must give workers written information about their employment terms. The WRC found the complaint well founded and ordered Carters Childcare Limited to pay €1,000 compensation.
