The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Dylan O’Riordan €12,000 after finding that Omniplex Cork Limited discriminated against him by failing to provide reasonable accommodation for his disability. The decision was dated 29 October 2024.

O’Riordan, who is autistic, sought more predictable shifts, two consecutive days off and access to a quiet space. Omniplex denied discrimination and said it had made accommodations and discussed occupational health recommendations with him.

The adjudication officer found that suitable shifts had been arranged for other staff, but O’Riordan’s needs were not fully addressed. The officer particularly noted the lack of certainty about two consecutive days off for rest. The company was also directed to provide management awareness training on supporting staff with neurological conditions such as autism.

A separate victimisation complaint was found not well founded. The officer noted that O’Riordan had not been dismissed and brought proceedings at the end of his employment.
