WRC rejects race discrimination complaint against Riu Plaza the Gresham Hotel

The Workplace Relations Commission found no prima facie case of race discrimination in a complaint by Husain Zaidi against Riu Plaza The Gresham Hotel. Adjudication Officer Patricia Owens dated the decision 6 August 2025. Zaidi said hotel staff questioned him while he waited in the lobby to meet a friend and asked him to leave. The hotel denied discrimination, saying staff approached him under its service policy and that he was asked to leave because of his behaviour. The adjudicator found Zaidi had not identified a comparator or evidence linking the staff’s actions to his race. The complaint was not well founded, and no award was recorded.
