WRC upholds Sarah Delahunty’s redundancy complaint

The Workplace Relations Commission found that Sarah Delahunty was entitled to a statutory redundancy payment after her employer conceded her complaint. The decision, dated 26 June 2024, said the payment should be based on her employment dates and weekly pay, subject to the statutory weekly cap of €600. Delahunty worked as a secretary for Frank Lafferty, trading as F Lafferty & Co., from 1 July 1996 until her redundancy on 14 February 2023. She said she had been laid off, was not reengaged and had not received a redundancy payment. Lafferty accepted the redundancy but said insolvency or lack of funds prevented payment.
