A Workplace Relations Commission adjudicator found that Paul Fleming was entitled to redundancy and notice compensation after his employer failed to attend a hearing. The decision, dated 10 June 2024, directed Insurance and General Investigation Services ltd to pay him €5,765.28 for the notice breach.

Fleming said he worked as a private investigator from 4 August 2000 and was told to stand down in November 2023 amid the employer’s financial difficulties. The company filed no defence and gave no explanation for its absence. The adjudicator found that his employment ended by redundancy on 27 November 2023 and that he was entitled to a statutory redundancy lump sum, subject to insurable employment.

The WRC also found his claim for payment in lieu of notice well founded, based on more than 15 years’ service. It ordered €5,765.28 in compensation for that breach. The decision records a 20-week break in service during 2020, whose treatment is subject to a statutory process.
