The Workplace Relations Commission awarded James Whelan €5,000 after finding his redundancy dismissal by Kb Event Trucking Limited was unfair. In a decision dated 5 August 2025, it found the company had made insufficient efforts to secure him access to suitable alternative roles and that management’s dissatisfaction with his conduct appeared to influence the decision.
The WRC also upheld Whelan’s complaint that he had not received the required Sunday premium for two Sundays he worked. It awarded him €107.69 for economic loss and €300 compensation. The company had said he was compensated through pay or time off.
The WRC rejected complaints about deductions for car hire, a parking fine and vehicle damage, excessive hours, and notice of changed employment terms. Whelan withdrew three other complaints.
