Café ordered to pay €2,160 over missing employment terms and €540 for unpaid notice

Roots Cafe Claregalway Limited was ordered to pay Aleksandra Iwona Kuczewska €2,160 for failing to provide written employment terms and €540 for dismissing her without one week’s notice. The Workplace Relations Commission decision was dated 30 October 2024. The WRC also found two further notice complaints well-founded, but made no separate awards for them because they concerned the same failure. Kuczewska’s race discrimination complaint was not well-founded: the adjudicator found she had not established facts from which discrimination could be presumed. The café said she resigned and later sought part-time work it could not offer; she said she was let go after asking for exam leave and part-time hours.
