The Workplace Relations Commission found that The Ladies Gaelic Football Association failed to provide a minor with reasonable accommodation to play competitive Under-12 football and directed it to pay €5,000 compensation. The decision was dated 26 June 2024.
The WRC also directed the association to introduce, within six months, an age-dispensation policy for children with disabilities up to and including Under-12 level. It found that the association withdrew an existing accommodation without carrying out the risk assessment it had indicated would take place. The association had argued that age rules were necessary for safety and fair competition.
The WRC had no jurisdiction to hear the age-discrimination complaint because the complainant was under 18; the merits were not decided. A separate claim against an affiliated club was withdrawn.
