The Workplace Relations Commission said it had no jurisdiction to hear Conor Ryan’s unfair dismissal complaint because it was lodged outside the six-month time limit. The merits were not decided. The decision was dated 13 August 2024. Ryan argued that his redundancy from the Commission Of Inquiry into Child Abuse was unfair, citing the selection and consultation process and the lack of redeployment. The Commission said the role ended after its workload declined and that it had considered alternatives. Ryan’s employment ended on 13 July 2022, and the WRC received his complaint on 12 February 2023, after the deadline. The adjudication officer made no finding on whether the dismissal was fair and recorded no award.
