The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Varvara Goneou €4,000 for unpaid annual leave and public holidays, finding her complaint well founded. In a decision dated 11 July 2023, it also awarded her €2,500 for unpaid Sunday premiums and €540 for minimum notice.
Goneou told the hearing she had received no premium pay for Sundays, holiday pay or minimum notice. Moon Quality Foods Ltd. did not attend or provide a submission. The adjudicator accepted Goneou’s uncontradicted evidence that she worked Sundays without premium pay, was not paid for annual leave or qualifying public holidays, and was entitled to one week’s notice after more than 13 weeks’ service.
The annual leave and public holiday complaint resulted in an overall €4,000 award. The decision specifies €3,000 for annual leave and €1,000 for public holidays. Goneou had also complained that she was paid less than the minimum wage, but withdrew that complaint after accepting that she had always received at least the legal minimum.
