The Workplace Relations Commission found truck driver Vasily Kuznecovs was unfairly dismissed by Tranz Iberia Express Ltd and awarded him €3,760, equivalent to four weeks’ pay. The decision was dated 3 July 2023. Kuznecovs said bad weather and ferry cancellations delayed his journey to Cherbourg, where he arrived after check-in had closed. He said the company blamed him and told him he no longer had a job. The company made no written submission, but said at the hearing that he found another role within two days. The WRC noted that alternative employment when assessing compensation.
