The Workplace Relations Commission found a €568.84 deduction from Daniel Pender’s wages was illegal and ordered Sonoma Valley Limited, trading as GSLS, to pay him €470 compensation. It found a separate €2,000 deduction lawful. The decision was dated 10 May 2023. Pender, a cashier and later banker, said the company withheld his final wages after accusing him of responsibility for missing cash. The employer relied on a contract clause allowing it to recover money owed. The adjudication officer accepted that the clause covered the €2,000 deduction, but found the company had not involved Pender in investigating a further €5,000 reported missing before withholding the remaining €568.84 of his wages. The complaint was partly well founded.
